David Flin's Books

David Flin

David Flin isn't quite sure how he's come to have collected a lifetime's experience without really having had a life plan or any of the things people have said are essential for success in life.
He was in the Royal Marines for around 13 years, until one day he forgot to duck. Then he spent a bit over a decade doing this and that, until he worked out that writing was quite a comfortable way of making a living.
He's written very technical stuff about gas turbines and the power industry, and has branched out into writing fiction, some of which draws on personal experience.

Six East End Boys (Book 1 in the Six East End Boys series)
Alternate History by David Flin
ASIN (Kindle) : B078MM2F6P

The Brighton Bomb Blast in 1984 was successful, leading to a greater willingness to cross moral lines in response. Things fell apart, there was something of a class struggle, and the Establishment won.
Eight years ago, riots in London turned into a more general disturbance, and order was restored by the Army. Laws were passed to ensure it never happened again.
Six survivors of the London Uprising swore that next time, they'd get it right. They aren't entirely sure what it is they want, but they've reached the point of believing that anything would be better than what they have.
They're far from heroes. They are certainly not knights in shining armour. They're simply driven by the belief that there has to be something better, and they'll do whatever it takes to achieve it.
This is their story.

Bring Me My Bow (Book 1 in the series)
Alternate History & Science Fiction by David Flin
ASIN (Kindle) : B07ST23B96

Seven years ago, Europe was nearly plunged into war. Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary was assassinated in Sarajevo, and diplomatic relations between Austria-Hungary and Serbia were extremely tense. Neither Russia and Germany were ready for a trial of strength, and both put pressure on their respective allies to reach a settlement.
War was narrowly avoided, but the tensions remained. The world has become used to these near-misses as the two blocs struggle to gain a significant advantage over each other. In Britain, life continues much as before, with the ruling class facing challenges from both outside the Empire, and also closer to home.
Thomas Cavendish, the son of a minor noble, has had a comfortable life in Derbyshire, with nothing more taxing than finding things to do to avoid boredom. That's about to change.
