Simon Brading

Simon Brading earned a living in quite a few ways over the years, doing things like ballet dancing, acting, modelling and voice work before finally settling on writing. He still does some acting every so often, but spends most of his days sitting at his laptop.

A Londoner most of his life, he moved to Barcelona a good few years ago now in search of a life that was less focussed on work.

The Books of Simon Brading

The Misfit Squadron series

The Misfit Squadron series is Alternate History in a Steampunk setting. It is an open-ended series, with at least a dozen more volumes planned, set in an alternate WW2 - the "Second Great War" - chronicling the adventures of a squadron of elite British pilots flying purpose-built machines against the Prussian Empire.
The Steampunk aspect of the series isn't arbitrary or used frivolously, though. The fact that oil is needed only for lubrication and hydrogen is used in the steam engines affects everything about the world, from political motivations to social advancement, and the war, which starts parallel to our own WW2, will take a very sharp turn very soon into the series and become unrecognisable.

Alternate History by Simon Brading
ASIN (Kindle) : B07X5BLSB4

The Second Great War is going poorly for the Kingdom of Britain - the British Isles are under siege and the only thing standing between the all-conquering Prussian army and victory is a thin strip of blue water and the gallant men and women of the Royal Aviator Corps.

Aviator Sergeant Gwen Stone is one of those women, but almost as soon as she begins her fight against the Prussian air force, Die Fliegertruppe, she is stripped of her wings and imprisoned in disgrace for illegally modifying her aircraft.

As the battle over the skies of Britain progresses and it looks like the Prussians are going to be as dominant in the air as they were on the fields of the continent, the hopes of the beleaguered nation come to rest firmly on the shoulders of Misfit Squadron, an elite group of pilots who don't always pay strict attention to military discipline, and Gwen is given a chance to redeem herself by joining them.

The Maltese Defence Misfit Squadron Book 5
Alternate History by Simon Brading

When the British receive intelligence that the Prussians are going to escalate the aerial attack on Malta, the War Ministry sends Misfit Squadron to reinforce the defences.

Isolated, outnumbered and desperately short on supplies, the Misfits are nonetheless ordered to hold the islands at all cost.
